Oceania- (sometimes
Oceanica) is a geographical, often geopolitical, region consisting of
numerous lands—mostly islands in the Pacific Ocean and vicinity.
Waimea
Canyon, Kauai, Hawaiian Islands- Carved over thousands of years from rivers
and floods that flowed from the summit of Mount Waialeale, Waimea is the largest
canyon in the pacific. [1]
Hawaiian
Waterfalls, Hawaiian Islands -The Hawaiian islands stand squarely in the
path of the wet, northeastery trade winds which shed their moisture-laden
burden on the land with unrivaled vigor, Mount Waialeale, on the island of
Kauai, is the wettest place on earth. [1]
Mauna Kea, Hawaii, Hawaiian
Islands -The summit of Mauna Kea has been a celestial observatory since
ancient times and is considered to be one of the best astronomical sites in
the world. For this reason it is home to many of the world's leading astronomical
observatories. [1]
Haleakala
Crater, Maui, Hawaiian Islands- Early Hawaiians applied the name Haleakala
("house of the sun") to the summit area only, most likely because from the
west side of the island, the sun could be seen rising up over the eastern
side of the mountain. [1]
