New 7 Wonders of Nature

Listed are the 28 finalists for selection as one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature. Vote by phone or internet. More than 1 billion people are expected to vote. The winners will be announced in 2011. Go to New 7 Wonders to place your vote.

The 28 finalists were chosen by a panel of experts from a list of 77 nominees that had the most votes in the initial polling. 261 landmarks were suggested by people.

Federico Mayor, former chief of UNESCO, the U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, chaired the panel. The finalists were picked keeping in mind the geographic balance, diversity and their importance to human life.

In 2007 the seven manmade wonders were voted on. With 100 million people voting the winners were the Colosseum in Rome; the Great Wall of China; the Taj Mahal in India; Petra in Jordan; Christ the Redemmer Statue in Brazil; Machu Picchu in Peru; and the Pyramic at Chichen Itza in Mexico

Amazon Rainforest -The Amazon rainforest , or the Amazon jungle, is a moist broadleaf forest that covers most of the Amazon Basin of South America.
It is located in Venezuela, Suriname, Peruu, Guyana, French Guiana, Ecuador, Columbia, Brazil
   
Angel Falls -Angel Falls is the world’s highest waterfall, with a height of 979m (3,212ft) and a clear drop of 807m (2,647ft).
It is located in Venezuela
Bay of Fundy-The Bay of Fundy is a bay on the Atlantic coast of North America. It is located in Canada
Black Forest- The Black Forest is a wooded mountain range in Baden-Württemberg, southwestern Germany.
Bu Tinah Shoals-Bu Tinah is a tiny archipelago 25 km south of Zirku and 35 north of Marawah in the United Arabian Emirates.
Cliffs of Moher-The Cliffs of Moher are located in the parish of Liscannor at the south-western edge of the Burren area near Doolin, which is located in County Clare, Ireland.
Dead Sea -The Dead Sea is a salt lake between Israel and the West Bank to the west, and Jordan to the east.
El Yungue -El Yunque is perhaps the most famous peak in Puerto Rico despite not being the tallest, measuring 3,526 feet above sea level.
Galapagos-The Galápagos Islands are an archipelago of volcanic islands distributed around the equator in the Pacific Ocean
Grand Canyon -The Grand Canyon is a steep-sided gorge carved by the Colorado River in the United States in the state of Arizona.
Great Barrier Reef-The Great Barrier Reef is located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland in northeast Australia.
Halong Bay -Ha Long Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage site located in Quang Ninh province, Vietnam. The bay features thousands of limestone karsts and isles in various sizes and shapes.
Iguazu Falls-Iguazu Falls, Iguassu Falls, are waterfalls of the Iguazu River located on the border of the Brazilian state of Paraná and the Argentine province of Misiones.
Jeita Grotto -The Jeita Grotto is a compound of interconnected karstic limestone caves in Jeita, Lebanon
Jeju Island -Jeju-do is the only special autonomous province of South Korea, situated on and coterminous with the country’s largest island.
Kilimanjaro-Kilimanjaro with its three volcanic cones, Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira, is an inactive stratovolcano in north-eastern Tanzania.
Komodo-Komodo is one of the 17,508 islands that make up the Republic of Indonesia. The island has a surface area of 390 km² and over 2000 inhabitants.
Maldives-The Republic of Maldives, is an island country consisting of a group of atolls stretching south of India’s Lakshadweep islands between Minicoy Island and the Chagos Archipelago
Mausarian Lake District-The Masurian Lake District or Masurian Lakeland is a lake district in northeastern Poland (Masuria) containing more than 2,000 lakes.
Matterhorn/Cervino-The Matterhorn , is a mountain in the Pennine Alps. With its 4,478 metres (14,692 ft) high summit, lying on the border between Switzerland and Italy,
Milford Sound -Milford Sound is a fjord in the south west of New Zealand’s South Island, within Fiordland National Park
Mud Volcanoes -Many mud volcanoes exist on the shores of the Black Sea and Caspian Sea.
Puerto Princesa -The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park is located about 50 kilometers north of the city of Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Philippines.
Sundarbans-The Sundarbans is the largest single block of tidal halophytic mangrove forest in the world.
Table Mountain -Table Mountain is a flat-topped mountain forming a prominent landmark overlooking the city of Cape Town in South Africa,
Uluru-Uluru, also referred to as Ayers Rock, is a large sandstone rock formation in the southern part of the Northern Territory, central Australia.
Vesuvius-Mount Vesuvius is a stratovolcano east of Naples, Italy.
Yushan-Yushan , also known as Mount Jade or Mount Yu, is the highest mountain in Taiwan and Yushan Range.
