The
top of Phu Rua Peak.[1] |
In northeastern Thailand is a flat-topped
sandstone mountain known as Phu Rua.
Phu Rua means "boat mountain"
because of a jutting cliff shaped
like the bow of a Chinese junk. Throughout
the area are tall sandstone formations
over 5 meters high. Cliffs are another
major feature of this area with one
of them covered in yellowish lichen.
The one covered with this lichen is
called Pha Sap Thong, which means
"cliff which absorbs gold."
If you yake an easy walk to the top
of Phu Rua, on the summit you will
see a Buddha statue which seems to
be looking over the area. [2]
Phu Rua National Park Loei
Province
Phu Rua comprises open pine forest,
savannah fields with diverse ground
flora and large natural rockeries
on which grow Rhododendrons and other
epilithic plants. There are approximately
105 bird species and the animals to
be seen are Barking Deer, squirrels
and Siamese Hares. One interesting
feature of Phu Rua is the rock formations
cut by wind and rain into the sandstone.[3]
