Visit
the 146 natural wonders of Africa,
from the White Desert
in Egypt, to the Blue
Niles Falls in Ethiopia
and over to the Hogsback
in South Africa. There are many
canyons, lakes, valleys and
falls throught the African landscape
that are true natural wonders
of the earth.
White
Desert, Egypt [1]
A main geographic
attraction of Farafra is its
White Desert (known as Sahara
el Beyda, with the word sahara
meaning a desert).
Viewed from above, Africa's
reach is remarkable. The sands
of the Sahara Desert blanket
the north, interrupted only
by the blue seam of the Nile.
Rising in Africa's east, the
Great Rift Valley
scars the land. Western shores
are frayed by the haunted
shipwrecks of Skeleton
Coast; and to the
south, savannas host a safari
of animals.
Rainbow
in the Kalahari [2]
This was a
full rainbow seen in the Kalahari
desert. Don't usually get
to see a full rainbow here
in the city so it was worth
a snap.
Africa's
central axis, the Congo Basin,
is a network of swamps and emerald
forests.

Africa
is the world's second-largest and
second most-populous continent, after
Asia. At about 30.2 million km²
(11.7 million sq mi) including adjacent
islands, it covers 6% of the Earth's
total surface area and 20.4% of the
total land area. With a billion people
(as of 2009, see table) in 61 territories,
it accounts for about 14.8% of the
World's human population. The continent
is surrounded by the Mediterranean
Sea to the north, the Suez Canal and
the Red Sea to the northeast, the
Indian Ocean to the southeast, and
the Atlantic Ocean to the west. Not
counting the disputed territory of
Western Sahara, there are 53 countries,
including Madagascar and various island
groups, associated with the continent.[3]
